Day 1

Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve – Arrival

You will be met at the international airport in Belize City, and you will have the option to take a short tour of the capital or transfer directly to the jungles of Western Belize. This is a country with three major roads, and Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve is far from all of them. Jaguars prowl the trees, ocelots and tapirs are regularly seen around sunset, and the bird list includes red-lored parrots and king vultures. Deep in this forest of misty pine is Francis Ford Coppola’s exclusive residence. Transformed into a 20-room hideaway, the lodge is surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of the wild. You will be staying here for the next few days.

Detailed Description

Belize is a country that overwhelms your senses. Beyond sightseeing, you will be immersed in the country’s atmosphere. The experience will be immersive in every way, and the country always surprises its visitors. Landscapes will set the scene, and this handcrafted vacation will lead you to three unique parts of Belize: the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Chan Chich, and Ambergris Caye. Each destination is enhanced by the accommodation. At one lodge, you will be deep in the jungle and across from the ruins of a Mayan plaza. You will also stay at Francis Ford Coppola’s property deep in the country’s oldest national park in addition to a boutique villa on the beach in Ambergris Caye.

Belize is a country without the hordes of tourists that are seen elsewhere in Latin America. As you travel from mountain to jungle to beach, the relative seclusion of your travels will ensure that you get a true feeling for Belize. You will visit Caracol, which is ruined Maya city deep in the jungle. The location’s central pyramid houses four palaces and three temples, including the tallest human-made structure in Belize. You can ascend the steps, gaze over the jungle, and feel how laid-back a country can be.

Caracol is one of your excursions during your first few days. From your hideaway in the rainforest, you can go hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, and exploring. On one of the days, you will cross the border to Guatemala, where the Maya ruins of Tikal will be complemented by a guided tour of a coffee plantation. You will then fly to Chan Chich the following day, where the rainforest and the ruins come together seamlessly. Here, you will track jaguar prints and search for rare wildlife in addition to spending a day in the sacrificial caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal.

You will then swap the rainforest for the reef when you spend several nights on Ambergris Caye. No specific activities will be planned for your time on the coast, although there are many potential options, including experiences at the Great Blue Hole. You will depart from Belize City via a short flight between the island and mainland before connecting with your international flight.

Belize Vacation Review: Snorkeling, Boutique Hotel, 1 Week

I have traveled extensively around the world with various companies. I think Zicasso's tour company may be the best. They were very responsive and flexible to the changes I needed to make during the trip and the concierge they assigned to me in Belize was awesome.

Guatemala Trip Review: Mayan Ruins, Helicopter Ride, Semuc Champey Pools, 11 Nights

The trip was well organised. All accommodations were excellent. The local guides were, for the most part, knowledgeable and spoke good English. There were a few disagreements between the itinerary that we received and that of the local company, but these were quickly resolved. Overall, this was an extremely pleasurable trip to a wonderful destination.

Belize Travel Review: Nature, Mayan Ruins, Beach, 10-Night Tour

Zicasso's travel agency planned a fabulous trip for us and it came off without a hitch. Our drivers were always on time (or early). They were friendly and helpful, and full of useful and interesting information.

Our lodgings were just what I desired. We stayed at a very pleasant small resort on the beach, with a nice restaurant and bar. The owner and the staff were friendly and helpful. The lodge in Caves Branch was more than just a jungle lodge; it was an adventure lodge with a large variety of daily activities. I only wish we had had more time! Oh, and the food at the lodge was excellent!
