Detailed Description
Thailand and Cambodia have always had secrets. The countries’ recent popularity hasn’t changed this, especially as the majority of visitors follow standard routes. Across both countries, you’ll find historical mysteries and tradition that has been kept hidden from most of the world. There are temples wrapped in trees, not just the famous ones in Angkor but others that lay shrouded by jungle. Communities are tucked away, like hill-tribes in northern Thailand and stilt houses on Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake. Other evocative stories are known, just lesser celebrated and lesser-seen by visitors, including Bangkok’s back canals, sublime tea plantations, and temples and ruins from distinctive eras. As you dive a little off the beaten track, you will find two countries that appear to have countless secrets.
This handcrafted tour to Thailand and Cambodia focuses on authentic stories that reveal the places and people where there are secrets left to uncover. You will travel at a relatively fast pace, with six different overnight stops in Thailand, before you use Siem Reap as a base to explore different areas of Cambodia. Angkor will be the highlight of course, but four days in Siem Reap will help you travel beyond the postcards of Angkor Wat. You will be led by a number of excellent guides with a focus on meeting the people. On this tour, experience everything from receiving a monk’s blessing in a Chiang Mai temple to a cooking class in a local kitchen.
Your trip will begin in Bangkok with a cultural dance performance offering a quick and laid-back means of getting to know the country’s regions. Then, spend the day on the back-canals and backstreets as you cruise through a lesser-seen side to the city. Fly to Chiang Rai where the White Temple and a night market provide contemporary experiences. Visit tea plantations and meet monks en route to Chiang Mai, where you will have a unique cooking experience. End your stay in Thailand with a day in early Siam at the Ayutthaya ruins before you spend a day around the jungle and railway close to the River Kwai, and a day immersed in the nature of Erawan National Park.
Fly to Siem Reap to travel in many Cambodian directions. Enjoy a sunset with the Khmer Empire as the centerpiece, a full day getting lost in the tree-wrapped temples, and exploring beyond central Angkor. Then, visit the Brahman temple of Banteay Srei, a floating community on Tonle Sap Lake, and sections of Angkor that remain in the most redolent state of ruin. Like in Thailand the tour is all about meeting people, exploring traditions, and uncovering the secrets that have made these places so unique.

We had a great trip to Thailand with our Zicasso trip planner. They set us up with a very helpful guide in Bangkok, who made it easy from the time we stepped off the plane, through all the temples, activities, night markets, tuk-tuks, and boats.
Our hotel in Bangkok was great, with nice views and a nice breakfast buffet. We took the free hotel ferry to the shopping mall and it was a lot of fun.
Our resort in Koh Samui was incredible. It had a great beach and pool. The elephant sanctuary and the cooking class were highlights. We would probably pass on Pig Island next time as it was very dirty and we saw pigs getting attacked.
Overall, we had a great time and the tour guide took care of us completely, from start to finish.

We had an amazing, nearly three-week trip throughout Southeast Asia. Zicasso's tour operators did an incredible job planning all of the details of the trip. In general, I am not easily impressed and I tend to be pretty upfront with my criticism. In this case, I was truly impressed. I really don't have any criticism about the whole experience.
This was a very complicated trip, with eight cities/locations and six internal flights. We had great communication in the months and weeks leading up to the trip. They were receptive to all of our requests and they gave very good advice when we had questions.
All of the guides were great. The hotels were amazing and all of the details of the activities, transfers, and internal flights were well thought out and well coordinated. I was so impressed by their attention to detail. They were also willing to be flexible and able to make changes, even during the trip. I was able to reach them throughout the trip by WhatsApp and they responded quickly every time. I would recommend them wholeheartedly.

We traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia from May 8 to 22, 2025. This was my fifth trip through Zicasso. As expected, the itinerary was excellent and exactly what we were looking for. I did double my budget from what I initially sent to Zicasso.
All of the lodging selections were outstanding. Along with the tours of the Ho Chi Minh complex, Hue Imperial City, the Angkor Wat complex, and numerous other temples and pagodas, we experienced a cable car ride to a mountain summit, a walk through an ethnic village, a water puppet show, a Cambodian circus, a Vietnamese cooking class, an evening lantern boat ride in Hoi An, and dinner in one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. The water puppets are an ancient Vietnamese art (11th century) and the show was extraordinary.

Zicasso's travel specialist arranged a wonderful trip and was extremely responsive to our interest in all art forms, culture, cuisine, and the American war in Vietnam. She was very receptive to revisions, even during the trip.
