Embracing the Urban Landscape

Santiago is a city with a rich history and lavish contemporary culture. Cafes bustle with locals enjoying a rich, brewed coffee. Office buildings tower over the financial district. The historic city center contains a captivating flamboyant spirit. 19th-century palaces line the streets, and intriguing churches have steeples that are juxtaposed with the surrounding skyscrapers. You arrive at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport. Your private transfer meets you at the airport and escorts you into the heart of the city, where you settle into the energetic lifestyle of the distinct neighborhoods.

The residential area of Bellavista rests at the foothill of Cerro San Cristobal. Gondolas travel from the base of the hill to the summit. Trees dot the landscape with verdant colors. Pablo Neruda’s home graces the hillside and looks out over the cityscape. Neruda erected his home in the 1950s. The dining room has a ship’s cabin motif. The living room resembles a lighthouse. Neruda’s love of the sea and all things nautical is on display in every room of the house, accentuated in the colored glass and shells. The home embodies the wonders of Santiago, a city close to the Pacific Ocean but offering consistent views of the bordering Andes Mountains. Chile Vacation Review: Torres del Paine, Grey Glacier Navigation, One-Week Travel
I do have some important feedback as I was totally disappointed with my stay at the hotel in Torres del Paine.First we land at 12:30 pm at the Puerto Natales airport and our cab pick up for some reason is at 14:30 pm. While this was in the document, I would have expected someone to highlight to me that I was supposed to be spending 2 hours at an isolated airport alone with not even a small store open to buy water or coffee. When the transport did arrive it was just for us to be picked up, so I am totally confused as to why I could not arrive as per my landing time. When we arrived the roof of the hotel was blown off by the wind and everything was chaotic. We couldn't even check-in for 3 hours after our arrival. We understood that for an extreme event of nature and let that go. All of our pre-booked excursions were totally messed up. I had to wake up every day at 6 am and go to the lobby and wait for someone to tell me whether the excursion was happening and at what time we needed to be ready. Nothing was pre-planned or communicated properly by the hotel, we were totally left guessing. The horseback riding to Base Torres never happened as it kept getting cancelled on all 4 days of our stay. For the Navigation to Grey Glacier, we were not sure till the last moment whether we would get on the boat because there was some miscommunication between our hotel & another hotel. Finally we got on the boat, but I was charged ~USD 200 for it at the time of check out. The hotel told me it was not included, while I was told by you that everything was included. Finally I paid the USD 200 as I had to leave for the airport and had no time to argue. Many similar experiences- where our laundry got mixed up and then our lunch ox was missed for one of the excursions etc. For the price that has been charged, I would expect a smooth and stress free experience but the whole 4 days was totally stressful and a total disaster in planning & communication. It left my wife & me totally disappointed with the overall experience.
