Detailed Description

With its stunning scenery and sensational storyline, the PBS Downton Abbey television series has won the hearts of 120,000 million viewers all over the globe. This tour allows you to experience the magic of Downton Abbey with visits to the sights that are as captivating in real life as on screen. With faithful attention to historical detail and a budget of one million dollars per episode, Downton Abbey accurately tells the story of the British nobility. In Season 4, the show faithfully depicts events of the 1920s and establishes believability through its lavish setting and exquisite period costumes.

Your tour begins in the bustling city of London, where you’ll enjoy a tour of Season 4 filming locations. You’ll visit Saint Pancras train station where Lady Edith arrives to meet her beau, Lady Rosamond’s house at Belgrave Square and the eclectic Notting Hill neighborhood of Michael Gregson’s fictitious flat. You’ll be treated to an elegant lunch at the Criterion Restaurant and traditional afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason’s. If you enjoy live music, you can spend an evening at a famous jazz club.

Next, you’ll visit the magnificent British manor house where Downton Abbey was filmed—Highclere Castle. This awe-inspiring place is one of England’s grandest aristocratic estates. Today Highclere Castle is the home of the 8th Earl of Carnarvon, George Herbert, and his wife Lady Carnarvon. Known to their friends as Geordie and Fiona, this charming couple graciously welcomes visitors to their castle and tends to the estate with the same care as their fictitious counterparts Lord and Lady Grantham.

The tour also gives you a taste of English country charm. You’ll drive through picturesque Oxfordshire County until you reach the village of Bampton at the edge of the Cotswolds. In this charming ancient village, you’ll visit “Downton” village locations. Wander down the lovely Church Street and step into the church where Lady Mary was married to Matthew Crawley. You’ll also have a chance to see the exterior of the fictitious house of Isobel Crawley. To make your experience in the countryside more memorable, you’ll stay at the Swan Inn at Swinbrook, a typical country inn complete with a cozy pub, featured in Season 2.

Ireland, Scotland, England Family Trip Review: Edinburgh, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Cliffs of Moher, History, Castle, Local Cuisine, Scenery, Art, 21 Days

Zicasso's trip planner worked with my family for the better part of a year planning our big family trip. She provided exceptional service and planned every detail of our trip. We have a large family, with lots of moving parts. There were many changes in the itinerary along the way and she rolled with all the many changes. She was always polite, courteous, and graceful in her many interactions with our family.

She listened carefully during our initial conversations to help us plan the best trip possible. Being a large family, with multiple generations, she really created the best possible experience, taking in everyone's wishes. Working with her was very relieving, knowing she was taking care of all the details.

Our family's trip took us from the States to Ireland, Scotland, and England. We traveled on planes, trains, ferry, and drove a car. Our trip planner arranged every detail meticulously. We stayed in lovely, quaint, boutique hotels, ate the most wonderful foods, saw the amazing sights, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites across all three countries. From the Cliffs of Moher to the Culloden Moor Memorial to Stonehenge to castles grand and desolate; from beautiful cathedrals to old abbey ruins; from little country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants; and even spending a couple days in an actual 17th-century castle, every minute was amazing! Truly amazing!

Zicasso's travel company helped create a wonderful UK trip for my family. Their fine attention to detail, along with a spectacularly planned itinerary, was greatly appreciated. From our drivers to amazing tour guides - the one in White Cliffs of Dover, the one in Ireland, and the one in Scotland - this trip was spot-on perfect!

The travel company's app was extremely helpful and user-friendly, and the lodging facilities chosen were perfect. In particular, the hotels located in the heart of each city made walking tours and exploring ideal. In addition, pre-planned excursions and activities added to an overall positive experience.

England Vacation Review: Family Heritage, London, Hampstead, Essex County, 9 Nights

Our Zicasso trip planner was outstanding! From the very beginning, she grasped our intent for this trip: a personal ancestry or genealogy focus, not a typical tourist or vacation trip. She adopted our goals, our hopes for discovery, and our needs, and developed "Pat and Pam's English Ancestry Adventure".

She went beyond our expectations in researching and setting up bespoke guided days with two museum directors in our areas of interest; arranged a fantastic guide in London for a half-day, personalized tour of Hampstead; and set up a meeting with the head verger at St Bartholomew the Great church in London, where we received amazing insights and details about two of our ancestors from the 1500s. And her logistics for our trip worked out flawlessly. She was always responsive to our questions and needs, she always had a great attitude, and was just a pleasure to work with!
