Detailed Description

Think of a European culinary vacation and the mind races to Italy, or wanders down a Parisian boulevard. But Germany? Isn’t that supposed to be bratwursts and dumplings? This unique journey confronts the stereotype, revealing the planet’s most exciting new culinary center: the Black Forest. Aromatic opulence blends with indelible panache, baroque brilliance subtly weaves into exhilarating new styles, TV-star chefs present signature menus, and this enchanting corner of Southern Germany offers 12 Michelin Stars in one surreal week of five-course dining.

Don’t worry if this sounds a little surprising. It’s hard to throw away the image of grilled sausages, but take tiny Baiersbronn, a captivating village nestled amidst a thick awning of evergreens. You’ll find charming farmhouses, luxurious spas, endless hiking trails… and eight Michelin Stars. Harald Wohlfahrt’s delicate, yet intense, creations greet you at Schwarzaldstube, then Claus-Peter Lumpp’s unrivaled aesthetics symbolize the inimitable menu at Bareiss. Mosaics of wild king prawn and truffle, sweetbreads of veal and Parmesan crust, micro-pureed rhubarb ice-cream, and you’ve still got Jorg Sackmann’s flair for Mediterranean perfectionism at the Schlossberg to come. Baiersbronn epitomizes the unexpected delights of the Black Forest, a sensual feast enhanced by bucolic landscapes and spas. It provides the final stop on this itinerary.

Still surprised? It’s expected. Most of these restaurants don’t advertise widely and Restaurant Bareiss only has eight tables. After experiencing Baiersbronn, your impressions and expectations of German’s culinary scene will be elevated. Starting with three days of boutique indulgence in Munich, Bavaria’s capital serves up majestic palaces, artistic treasures, and mystical Christmas markets of delectables and intrigue. Each night culminates in Michelin Star revelry, starting at the innovative Restaurant 181 First, revolving above the city from the Olympic Tower summit. Then comes the Bavarian delight of TV chef Alfons Schuhbeck. Munich bursts with compelling contradictions, the cozy old world atmosphere mingling with slick sophistication. Enjoy your evening at Les Deux where you will be delighted by unpretentious traditional French cuisine with a Japanese note and a 500 strong wine menu.

A scenic train ride will unveil the region’s picturesque glory and Stuttgart reveals its wizardry on this journey passing through an alluring Christmas market and the city’s cultural highlights. Frank Oehler is the master of ceremonies in Stuttgart, his signature five-course menu befitting the TV stardom. Like every hand-selected restaurant on this itinerary, the food is created for the discerning and demanding.

Raise your expectations. Raise them further. And you’ll still be wowed. Completing and complementing the handcrafted itinerary is a tailored collection of boutique five-star hotels, each matching the chefs’ originality and attention to detail, and ensuring the visual splendor stretches from delicate entree to serene bedroom.

This itinerary is recommended for Christmas travel in 2019, although it’s applicable all year round. Sections of this itinerary may be further customized per client’s request.

This was a five-star trip all the way. We traveled alone, but always knew we had the security of Zicasso's tour company at our immediate disposal, if needed.

Our Zicasso travel coordinator was extremely responsive, which we highly value. She spent weeks adjusting and discussing our custom itinerary to meet our needs. We asked so many questions about payment and options while building trust; she never faltered in her patience, professionalism, and kind support.

When it came time for our trip, everything flowed with our custom itinerary. We are seasoned travelers, so we were not annoyed by some minor inconviences and the company's WhatsApp help desk team was super-responsive and even proactive. Each day they provided our next day's itinerary. They worked hard for us to make some "in-the-moment" changes and we always felt supported and cared for.

One hotel was not four stars, as described, but locals explained it had recently changed management. One guide was a bit intrusive and lacked boundaries, but we did not hesitate to provide those suppliers with our direct feedback either; we know it was not on our travel company.

So, in summary, everything was a great experience, just be clear to have the right expectations and share any feedback directly with sub-contractors, but also follow up with the travel company.

Zicasso's travel expert pulled together a great itinerary and was very responsive to all of our questions, regardless of the time or the day of the week. He checked in with us during the tour and arranged for a birthday cake when we were in Vienna.

We were more than pleased with our guide. He was helpful, always on time, and just a pleasure to be with. He was always helpful with restaurant suggestions and always made reservations for us. He was always ready to help us with our luggage and he even carried a backpack for us during one tour. He even played a "Sound of Music" recording for us while we traveled to Salzburg. It was like we were traveling with a new friend. We would highly recommend our travel company and our guide, We are in the process of planning another tour with them.

Zicasso's travel agency did an excellent job of helping us plan our Central Europe trip by listening to what we wanted out of the trip and then incorporating our ideas and their expert advice into an amazing itinerary. Our itinerary was jam-packed with wonderful tours and awesome adventures, including wonderful day trips throughout the three weeks of our vacation.

We have done a lot of travelling throughout the world and this was one of the best trips we have taken. In addition, they were always available and very responsive the couple of times we needed their assistance. We highly recommend them to assist anyone with their travel plans.
