Istanbul – A Whirling Dervish Welcome to Turkey
Istanbul has always reveled in its exoticism, a proverbial magic carpet floating across streets of architectural splendor. The city excites and compels; domes reflect Mediterranean rays, old women gather to drink tea besides palaces, and a special performance offers a unique welcome to the city. Your family will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel in Sultanahmet, the historic suburb that was once the centerpiece of Byzantium and Constantinople. There's limited road traffic here and many streets are pedestrianized, making it both quiet and safe. Sultanahmet also offers a prime base for easy wanderings and exploration of the city.
Resplendent in white and seemingly lost in the trance, the Whirling Dervishes spin for minutes without pause. Around and around they go, never losing balance as their movements match a soft drum beat and the resonant recital of poems. It's a performance that immediately imbues the inimitability of Turkey. Witnessing it is a rare experience. The Whirling Dervish performance is part of the evening entertainment as you sit down for dinner in Sultanahmet; glance skyward and the domes of the Blue Mosque cast another exotic spell.

Detailed Description
The Southern Mediterranean provides an indelible blend for the whole family; secluded beaches, famous ruins, intriguing culture, unique attractions that excite children. From the moment the Whirling Dervishes welcome you to Istanbul, this vacation provides enchantment at every turn. The first six days are spent discovering the world-renowned sites and treasures of Turkey. Then the mood switches from exploration to escapism as you settle onto the Gennadi sand on the Greek island of Rhodes. Carefully tailored activities offer a family focused slant on tradition; cycle in two continents in just two hours, recreate Roman history in Ephesus, and create a customized itinerary with your personal guide in Rhodes.
The first three nights are spent in Istanbul, a captivating city that blurs any distinction between East and West. Despite its size, the city is calm and easily discovered on two feet or two wheels. Immerse yourself in the famous sights; the Blue Mosque, the winding corridors of the Grand Bazaar, street food along the Bosphorus, and spices that cascade smells through the city. On day two you take a private walking tour. Day three includes a unique cycle tour which allows you to peddle over the bridge that connects two continents. Fly to Izmir on the morning of day four and spend a day on the beach, the golden sand a glimpse of what's to come in Rhodes.
Days five and six provide an opportunity to revel in the beauty and history of Roman and Greek empires. Visit Ephesus, a wonderfully preserved Ionian city radiating fascinating chronicles. Then soak up the therapeutic splendor of Pamukkale. A white wonderland of pools and terraces spill down the mountainside and the healing waters have been soothing legs for some 3,000 years. Continue to Marmaris where a scheduled ferry service takes you across the Mediterranean to the pristine Greek island of Rhodes. Nestled on the east of the island, and within easy reach of historic Lindos, Gennadi Beach is one of the last untouched expanses in the Mediterranean. For these final four days you have a private guide who can tailor a program of activities. The whole family can explore together or the children can be entertained while you indulge in the impressions of getaway.

This was my second Zicasso trip, the first being to Peru in 2024, so I had full confidence in their travel company and was delighted by the level of care and attention to detail throughout the trip.
I essentially had three trips while in Turkey. I arrived a day early to attend a six-day cooking school that was independently arranged. The travel company smoothly organized my airport pickup and first-night hotel. After the cooking school, I was again booked in the original hotel (old town, close to major sites, clean, nice), and my daughter joined me for a week-long tour of Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Ephesus.
The guides in each region were knowledgeable, though we could have made do with fewer facts (height in meters of the Blue Mosque, area in square meters of Hagia Sophia, number of sheep in the country) and had more free time to explore on our own. We loved the major Istanbul sites, the Bosphorus cruise, and lunch on the Asia side. We were delighted with our cave hotel in Cappadocia and the hot-air balloon ride on my daughter's birthday. We loved strolling through Ephesus.
All the internal flights were arranged, booked, and checked in by the agent, so all we had to do was show up on time. The vans that transported us were clean and nice, with good drivers. After my daughter left, I was booked for three nights on a gulet, with stops on the Mediterranean. It was a nice way to slow down and finish the busy trip.
The highlight of my travels was dinner at my agent's home with his lovely family. He even arranged for me to find some earrings like those of his mother, which I had admired, and then drove me to the airport. Above and beyond!

Words cannot describe how wonderful this trip to Greece was! Zicasso’s tour operator did a wonderful job planning out our days so we could experience the highlights of Athens, Santorini, and Crete! The accommodations at all three spots were more than comfortable and had lovely staff and a good breakfast.
We did run into one problem in Crete at the hotel, where our rooms were up on the third floor and there was no elevator and no staff to carry our bags. I had to ask for room changes. We could all walk up the steps, but not carrying 50-pound suitcases! The staff quickly offered us rooms accessible by elevator and the rooms were beautiful! They gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for our troubles.
All of the drivers arrived on time, many giving us information about what we were seeing as they took us to destinations. The tour guides who had been arranged were knowledgeable and had a great way of presenting archeological sites, as well as museums.
We especially enjoyed our private tour to a small town in the mountains in Crete, where we were given a tour of a family's olive gardens, as well as a fabulous meal with them! We had such a good time with them and we all had tears when we left them! I cannot give enough stars for this fabulous vacation!
Our agent was available to us the whole time as we ran into a few questions. Nothing major, just a few small things. I will definitely be using Zicasso and our travel agency in my future travels. Bravo to our agent!

Our agent made sure we were cared for properly during our travel time too, occasionally checking in with us. We had a disappointment with one tour and he tried to make it right. I can fully recommend his services for a tour of the region.

Our journey through Turkey and Egypt in May 2025 with Zicasso's travel company was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we landed until our final departure, every detail was thoughtfully arranged, making the experience seamless, immersive, and truly unforgettable.
What set this trip apart was our exceptional tour guides. In both countries, the guides were not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also passionate, warm, and attentive. They brought the rich histories of Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Cairo, Luxor, and beyond vividly to life. Whether we were exploring ancient ruins or navigating vibrant bazaars, our guides made every moment engaging and meaningful.
A special mention must go to our tour organizer. His behind-the-scenes coordination, quick responsiveness, and personal care were evident throughout. He ensured every transition was smooth, every need was anticipated, and every traveler felt individually looked after. His dedication and professionalism elevated the entire experience.
We returned home with a deeper appreciation of these remarkable destinations, lasting memories, and a strong desire to travel again with our travel company. We highly recommended them for anyone seeking a thoughtfully curated, high-touch travel experience.

If you're considering a trip to Greece, look no further than Zicasso. Our travel expert planned an unforgettable journey for our family; Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini, and every detail was executed with care, expertise, and passion.
From the moment we arrived in Athens, we were immersed in the country’s warm hospitality. Our agent made sure we had the perfect balance of sightseeing and relaxation. The historical sites in Athens, like the Acropolis and the ancient Agora, were must-sees.
Mykonos is vibrant yet relaxed. The beaches were beautiful. Every meal on this trip was a highlight. Fresh seafood, local cheeses, olive oil, and delicious pastries—each bite told a story of Greece’s deep culinary heritage.
In Santorini, we were captivated by the island’s charm—whitewashed buildings, breathtaking sunsets, and the deep blue Aegean Sea. We visited traditional villages, giving us a glimpse into the rich cultural traditions that are still very much alive.
Throughout the trip, what stood out most—beyond the stunning landscapes and ancient history—was the friendliness of the Greek people. Their warmth and pride in their culture made every moment feel welcoming and genuine.
Our agent didn’t just plan a vacation—he created an experience rooted in history, tradition, and hospitality. I can’t recommend him and Zicasso highly enough.
