Delhi – Absorbing the Indian Energy

Bustling streets, crowded markets, the splutter of tuk-tuk exhausts...Delhi might not seem the most relaxing place to start but the capital city has had a facelift in recent years. It’s now far more inviting than most people realize. Touch down at the redeveloped airport and travel into a new part of the city, where your hotel stands high above the streets. Check-in and check out the views from the rooftop terrace, while discussing the next few days with your guide. Nothing specific is planned for today, but the guide will take you to a neighborhood or restaurant, something that will suit the mood and help you make easy first impressions of India.

Detailed Description

You can’t see all of India and Nepal in three weeks. But you can delve into most of the experiences that make these countries so unique. Colorful marketplaces of smells and sounds. Cities painted in a single harmonious color. The Himalayas and the tranquility of a mountain trek. Meeting locals in temples, traveling on a train, discovering Mughal wonders, and finding rhinos in the jungle. There’s Buddhist spirituality, Hindu energy, and dusty old-world towns reminiscing of a time of empire. It would take three years to see everything in these two countries, but three weeks offers a truly in-depth tour, while traveling at a comfortable pace.

Your ten nights in India are spread across five iconic destinations. Start in Delhi, the convenient entry point and a city that mixes the old and new of local culture. Drive to Agra and find that there is more than the Taj Mahal, like the fabulous remains of Fatehpur Sikri. Take the train to Jaipur and immerse yourself in the famous pink city. Then drive through rural Rajasthan to Udaipur, perhaps India’s loveliest city, where palaces stand on islands in a lake. Old Jodphur is small and very old, completing the classic triangle of distinctive Rajasthani cities. With local guides you explore more than monuments though, like markets, temples, monkeys, and a wonderful variety of food.

Fly to Kathmandu and spend two nights in a city undergoing great change. One day involves cultural discovery – three ancient kingdoms are located here – the other gives you views onto Everest. Fly to Pokhara and a relaxed day on the lake, then escape into the mountains with an easy four-day Himalayan trek. Stay in Gurung villages, savor the serenity, and appreciate the beauty of the Annapurna range. The trekking rhythm is a wonderful antidote to modern life and the trek can be adjusted to most levels of fitness. Stay in nature with the following two days in Chitwan, the legendary home of rhinos and elephants. After all the cultural discovery, Annapurna and Chitwan provide the kind of getaway that helps you reset and reenergize for home.

India Travel Review: Taj Mahal, Golden Triangle, Ganges River, Tiger Safari, Culture, Local Cuisine, 10-Night Trip

We had a perfect, spectacular tour of the Golden Triangle, including a tiger safari! What can we say! Excellent, timely, safe transportation. All of the guides were personable, extremely versatile, enthusiastic, and gave us a real feel with an inside view of their city. The hotels were wonderful, all well chosen. Zicasso's travel company personalized our tour to our interests. We will probably go to another location with them next year!

India Trip Review: Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Safari, Kayaking, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Culture, Wildlife, 60 Nights

Zicasso's travel specialist did an amazing job of selecting locations and properties in rural areas that perfectly suited me. I loved the tented camps and safari lodges, visiting rural villages and schools, kayaking, horseback riding, walking, and enjoying cultural activities.

I selected two resorts and they were everything I hoped they would be, with fabulous service and wonderful experiences. The travel agent selected four other hotels and they were everything I hoped for as well. I loved them all, but especially the one in Jawai Bandh, which may have been my favorite spot on the trip. The service was spectacular, with great leopard spotting, guides, and butlers.

I really wasn’t keen on the cities. I was sick in Delhi and stayed in my hotel, and quickly went through Jaipur. Two hours there was enough. Udaipur was the best of the three. I especially liked my hike there. The hotel in Udaipur was OK, but there were a lot of pigeons making a noise around the rooms.

India Tour Review: Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park8 Nights, Safari, Tigers

It was a great trip and a wonderful experience. I did not quite realize this before the trip, but a tiger safari in India is quite different from, say, a safari in the Serengeti or Maasai Mara. The elusiveness of the tigers is what really makes this so special.

The Zicasso travel agency was great – very patient and very helpful from beginning to end. Everything went very smoothly. Five stars, without a doubt.

India Vacation Review: Safari, Taj Mahal, Elephants, Jaipur, Jodhpur, 2 Weeks

The trip was diverse, fascinating, and truly memorable. Zicasso’s trip planner did a fabulous job in organizing the logistics, accommodations, and tours. She was always available and willing to help when needed. Our drivers were wonderful, too. The wilderness camp visit was magnificent, along with many other highlights. Our only minor complaint was the shopping experience – the guides took us to places we had zero interest in. Fortunately, we didn’t waste too much time. Overall, we were very pleased and enjoyed this lifetime adventure.
