Sorrento – Arrive in Naples for an Immersive Tour of Ancient Pompeii

Naples is a city of exuberance and history as the colors of the sea glow against the brightly painted facades that line the promenade. The scent of pizza emanates from the numerous pizzerias around the city, each a testament to Neapolitan pride as Naples lays claim to having invented the world famous cuisine. Opera singers perform in open piazzas, and cafes fill with locals as they relax with an afternoon espresso. Your private transfer will meet you at the Naples International Airport and escort you to the heart of the city to discover the mixture of historical streets and gregarious culture.

The 2nd-century catacombs form a maze of passages and chambers wind beneath the city. Paintings decorate the walls, including frescoes that blanket the vaulted ceilings along the two levels. The Castel Nuovo frames the southern edge of Piazza del Municipio with five dramatic towers. The structure was erected in the 13th-century with kings and viceroys that added layers and wings to the architecture throughout the centuries. Outside of Naples, you have a clear view of the summit of Mount Vesuvius that lingers on the opposite side of the Bay of Naples.

Your private transfer will lead you to the entrance of the famous city of Pompeii, known for its unique and descriptive demise in 79 AD by Mount Vesuvius’s massive eruption. Step into history on the preserved cobblestone streets. The Large Theater could hold up to 5,000 people, and its immaculate preservation allows visitors to enjoy regionally sponsored festivals. From the top row, you can see the peak of Vesuvius. Walking through Pompeii will make you feel as though you are digging your hands into the dirt and excavating history yourself.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Pope Francis’ Funeral, Wine, Cuisine, Culture, Museums, Relaxation, 10 Nights

Zicasso’s tour operator planned the most amazing trip to Italy for us! My requirements were culture, romance, and relaxation. She delivered on every aspect. Although we missed our tour of the Vatican due to the Pope's funeral, my husband and I actually attended his funeral!! Our hotel, though planned many months before, was next to the basilica where Pope Francis was laid to rest. Talk about being a part of history!

We stayed in a beautiful converted villa to boutique hotel in Florence; got whisked away through the Tuscan countryside in a vintage Fiat 500; took cooking classes; sipped lovely wine, accompanied by excellent lunches on our winery tours; soaked in Italy's rich culture and museum scene; and even ticked the relaxation box by spending time by the pool, in the spa, and resting on our large deck overlooking the Amalfi coastline.

Every tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and it was evident they loved their jobs. Between memories of the boat ride along the Amalfi Coast, tips from the cooking classes I have already started using at home, and the cases of wine we are eagerly awaiting delivery of, my husband and I will forever hold Italy in our hearts and la dolce vita it provided us.

Talk with our tour operator; you will be glad you did!
