Venice – Charm of a Venetian Neighborhood

The beauty of Venice emanates from the marble palaces shimmering in the sunlight against the reflective waters of the tranquil lagoon. In the evening, the aroma of freshly grilled fish hinted with lemon zest drifts out of Bacari, traditional wine bars serving small dishes to accompany the drinks. The ancient spice route across the Mediterranean Sea has shaped the cuisine and the wealth of the former Venetian Republic, apparent in the architecture and the labyrinthine streets known as calli. Your flight lands at Marco Polo International Airport, where you meet your private transfer. You venture to the edge of the Grand Canal and are immediately drawn to the mystery and majesty of a city riddled with hidden passageways and gothic palaces, radiant frescoes and unique masks. Board your private vaporetto ship that winds along the canals taking you to the dock of your hotel.

The luxurious lobby adheres to the ambiance of Venice, exhibiting lacquered furnishings and embellishments of red and gold hues, the colors of the historic Republic. The comforts of your accommodation, along with the friendly staff and attention to the smallest details, make you feel like Venetian nobility. After settling into the hotel, you venture out onto the meandering cobblestone streets to explore he neighborhood of Rialto, known for the 16th-century marble bridge arching over the canal, along with the narrow streets leading to Campo Maria Domini, a piazza bordered by medieval palaces with windows modeled after the Byzantine style.

Detailed Description

The culture of Venice and the region of Veneto differ in proud tradition from the other regions of Italy. Your 10-day tour encompasses the legends of the Venetian Republic and the noble heritage rising from the empire’s wealth, overtaking the Adriatic Sea, from the edges of the canal to the foothills of the mountainous terrain. The city of Venice erupts with local pleasures in September during the Regatta Storica. You arrive at Marco Polo Airport and venture to the heart of the historic city by private transfer. Explore the narrow streets of the canal around your hotel for an introduction to the beauty of the water. On the following day, Venice embraces you with celebratory parades floating down the Grand Canal to usher in the boat races.

Delight in the morning regalia and witness the annual gondola race before joining in the festivities of a celebrating city, followed by a tour of St. Mark’s Square. The next day begins with a historic introduction to the famous masks of the city. Learn about the production and past of the masks before making a personalized work under the guidance of a professional artist. Venture to the sandy shores of the Lido district to enjoy the lagoon and relaxed pace of the first beach resort in Europe. Then, you have a private transfer to the Island of Murano to spend the day wandering the quiet cobbled streets, visiting the glass museums and mosaic-clad churches, and witnessing a stunning glassblowing demonstration.

The next day takes you to the gardens in and around the lagoon, from the public park providing greenery to the stone city to the lavish Pisani Villa and its challenging maze. In the afternoon, you wander through the maze-like streets of the Jewish Ghetto to take in the remaining history of the first ghetto Europe. Traverse the Grand Canal on a private boat. Visit the lavish palaces, museums, and churches along the two and a half mile waterway leading to the Adriatic Sea. The following day is at your leisure to delight in the splendor of Venice. Take a cruise down the Brenta Canal or wander through the remarkable museums of the city at your preferred pace. You could also take a tour of the Doge’s Palace to reveal all the hidden chambers of the seat of the Venetian Republic.

Next, you leave the noble city behind for the villas around Veneto. Explore the town of Treviso and the nearby Villa Barbaro. Tour the opulent interior before your guide takes you on an encompassing tour of the vineyards, followed by tasting of the wines produced on the estate. Your private transfer escorts you from the villa to the charming city of Verona. The next morning, you have a private tour of the marvelous city, which contains Roman ruins, looming castles, and an unforgettable connection to Romeo and Juliet. Your private transfer meets you at the hotel in the heart of Verona on the final day and escorts you to Verona Villafranca Airport for your flight home.

Italy Review, Tuscany & Umbria Vacation, Chianti, Perugia, Montefalco, Bevagne, Wine Tour
I am sorry to report this but as a customer of Zicasso I feel you should know when a travel agency does not live up to your standards. Both Mike, myself and our friends have used your referral company and have had great results. There were just too many things about this trip that were a huge disappointment.Train tickets issued to Mike & I were for two different train cars! Why would a premiere travel agent who knows we have never traveled this way put myself and my husband on a train in two completely different train cars! Thankfully the ticket handler was gracious enough to let us sit together. As a premiere travel agency we definitely should have been asked to if we would like to have premiere economy and definitely should have had tickets where we sat together.Location of Villas: While the Villa in Chianti and the hotel in Perugia were both wonderful places but very isolated. The places we were scheduled to travel to were all located a long ways away. We spent so much time in our van driving it was cause for a lot of stress. For example poor time management on scheduling: Florence - travel distance fine, tour guide great, no time at all to shop as driver was waiting to take us back. Pienza - a 2+ hour drive when we arrived the driver said he would need to take us to next stop in 20 minutes! That is not relaxing. We were then late to our lunch at the farm which they were not pleased but were very accommodating for us. Thank goodness she was such a doll. On to Montalcino but no, we had no time to visit this village because we had to be at a winery for a tour. Then a 2+ hour drive home only to have our other driver waiting to take us to dinner. Stress. Castello di Ami yet another long and windy road trip to go to two wineries. Which were nice but feel there were probably some closer that would have satisfied. Cortona was fun yet another long day in the van. The hotel in Perugia seemed so relaxing but we never had time to spend there. Next day another 1.5+ hr. drive to a winery and 2 villages one Montefalco was fun to walk around, when we arrived at the village of Bevagne it was literally a ghost town no shops were open nothing. This might have been due to August holiday but the Travel agent should be aware of these things. It was a waste of time. Restaurants suggested: a Chianti restaurant was cute and nice to have when you are tired from traveling. The Tuscany restaurant was lovely, 25 minute drive just fine and we had a great meal. The other restaurants in this area that were suggested were too far away 45 min.+ after being in a car all day - again travel agent should be cognizant of this itinerary. We found a fun castle 5 min. drive away and had a great meal. After traveling all day to get to our hotel in Perugia we were not up for traveling yet again to a restaurant but there was nothing close by and this restaurant was to be on Lake Trasimeno so we decided to go. It was awful no view of the lake the wait staff forgot our order and food was sub par. ugh The next night we ate pizza at the resort! Transportation: We were to have English speaking drivers every day. We had 2 the rest of them spoke very little English in fact the last one driver spoke no English we had him for 2 days. Luckily he was so sweet that he downloaded a translate app and I sat in the front seat so we could "talk" to him.
