A Serene Senior’s Tour of Southern Italy and Sicily

After breakfast this morning, you will continue your journey through Sicily to Taormina. Along the way, you will stop in Agrigento and explore the rich history of the city. When you arrive in the ancient town, your guide will lead you on a tour of the Valley of the Temples. The Valley of the Temples is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you will visit a handful of other temples during your tour. After your tour, you will continue the scenic ride to Taormina and waterfront accommodation.

After breakfast, you will head out for an excursion to the nearby town of Giardini Naxos. You will have several hours to explore Giardini Naxos at your own pace. Perhaps, you will unwind at one of the town’s stunning beaches of golden sands. You may also choose to stroll through the many shops and boutiques that have handmade goods for sale or admire the charming buildings that line the streets. Once your relaxing afternoon winds down, you will return to Taormina.

This morning, you will transfer to Messina. Here, you will board a ferry and embark on a trip to mainland Italy. Upon your arrival in Reggio Calabria, you will transfer to Matera. After settling in to your accommodation, your guide will lead you to a wine tasting experience in the afternoon. An authentic wine bar in the center of the city will provide the perfect setting for your immersive wine experience. As you learn about the specialty wines of the Basilicata Region from a professional sommelier, you will smell and sip your way through the delicious varieties.

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to your next destination of Sorrento. Upon your arrival in Sorrento, a driver will transfer you to your waterfront hotel, where you can relax. Soon after, your guide will lead you to a private boat, which will take you to the remarkable island of Capri for a fantastic afternoon. It will be your choice to travel around Capri by foot or private vehicle. During your tour of the island, you will visit the unrivaled Gardens of Augustus, the nearby town of Anacapri, and the Villa San Michele. Once your tour concludes, you will return to Sorrento.

This morning, you will transfer to your final destination of Naples. During the ride, you will stop in ancient Pompeii for a tour. Pompeii is considered an archeological gold mine and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was famously buried under volcanic ash after an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and the subsequent excavations have unearthed a city that has been frozen in time. After your tour of the city, you will continue your journey to Naples. When you arrive, you will check in to your accommodation and have the rest of the evening to spend at your leisure.

You will have time for one last stroll around the roads of Naples this morning. With a fresh cup of coffee in hand, you can wander into a few of the local boutiques with handmade goods for sale. Soon, you will return to your hotel to gather your belongings. When you are ready, you will transfer to the airport for your flight home.
