Detailed Description

The glory of Spain is rooted not just in the typical cities of Madrid and Barcelona, nor in the preserved Moorish and Christian charms of Andalusia, but instead emanates from the combination of distinct cultures across the various regions of the country. During your two-week food tour of Spain, you can experience the interconnection of culture and cuisine in Catalonia, Madrid, La Rioja, Basque, Castile and León, Asturias, and Galicia. You will feel it all through the enchanting landscapes, stunning towns, gorgeous vineyards, and welcoming cities. From castles to cobblestone streets, cave art to cider, the discovery of the splendor of tapas and the allure of pintxos, the delights will rise from the sea and be crafted in the hills and valleys.

Your remarkable tour of Spain will begin with your arrival in Barcelona and three nights spent discovering Catalonia. The remarkable Mediterranean ambiance abounds along the coastline and in the rolling hills that have inspired delectable seafood dishes and marvelous wines, and where you will sample some of the best organic produce during a private cooking class at a famous hotel in the Penedés. Visit the captivating monastery of Montserrat for a stunning view of the mountain and a remarkable look into the ways monks have sustained themselves in the secluded foothills for centuries. Once in Madrid, the bustling capital streets blend with traditions from all around Spain inside the contemporary, cosmopolitan ambiance of the city’s alluring restaurants and impressive monuments. Traveling through the wine regions of Ribera del Duero and Rioja highlight the different characteristics of the landscapes and how those differences shape the wines vintners produce, as well as the traditional cuisine made in the different regions.

Three nights in Basque Country will celebrate one of Spain’s best-known culinary regions, famous for the restaurants of San Sebastian and the culture of Bilbao. Explore the coastal towns, sample the cherished flavorful creativity of a Michelin star restaurant, and explore the confluence of artistry and culinary imagination at the Guggenheim Museum. Find rocky coves, Atlantic swells, mountain peaks, and incredible traditional cuisine reimagined by local chefs. The final leg of your culinary tour will take you through the Asturias and Galicia regions over four nights to discover the proud Spanish traditions of Asturias and the singular Gaelic customs of Galicia. Whether visiting medieval villages and cider houses, or traveling along a portion of the renowned Camino de Santiago, the traditions the kitchen highlight the differences shaped by the land and sea as well as the customs shared by a united Spain.  Looking to perfect your dream luxury Spain vacation? Portugal, Spain Tour Review: Porto, Cangas de Onis, Sidecar...

The planning experience was wonderful overall. From the initial conversation about what my family was looking for to the final touches to the itinerary, Zicasso's travel expert was engaging, responsive, and helpful.

The accommodations he selected for us exceeded expectations; they were spacious, beautiful, and well-located. The tours/activities suggested were really fun and gave us a sense of the locale in a unique and memorable way that fit our family well. Once we were in-country, communications were easy and helpful. We felt very well cared for.

Payment to our travel company was easy and it was a real pleasure once we were in-country to have all the identified items already paid for. I would definitely book a trip with them again.

Spain Vacation Review: History, Architecture, Hiking, E-Biking,...

Zicasso's travel specialists did a great job for us. They clearly listened to us and curated an experience that was made specifically for us. It checked all of the boxes and more.

Highlights were the local tour guides in each city. It was great to meet and get to know local people, learn so much history, see the architecture (Gaudí in Barcelona and the awesome palaces and cathedrals that we visited), the Montserrat hike, Caminito del Rey (which was absolutely better with a guide), and the Marbella e-bike adventure.

The hotels were wonderful; all unique and all great choices. We came home happy and tired, which is the sign of a good trip for us (since we do not ever sit on beaches or at pools and relax!).

My family and I loved Asturias. We considered it a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip. Zicasso's travel agent planned the perfect outings for us. Our guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Our agent also provided us with very helpful hints and suggestions for restaurants and shops. Both of the hotels he chose were located perfectly and staffed by friendly employees.
