Barcelona – Family Comes First

Your luxury travel begins in Barcelona, a city unlike any other in the world and it practically vibrates with energy. It resembles an avant-garde wonderland, with world-class museums and unique architecture. The Mediterranean Sea brushes against the shores. The family arrives and your private transfer meets you at the airport. It is easy to settle into the city, with its charm and relaxed pace layered beneath the vibrant atmosphere.

Your guide meets you at your hotel to help bring the city to life. The “Block of Discord,” is an area along the Passeig de Grácia noted for its sensational modernist architecture designed by four celebrated architects. You notice the differences in each house easily. The playful designs fascinate and intrigue the entire family. Casa Lleó-Morera contains ornate balconies that protrude from the rounded street corner. The balconies layer the building until reaching the rooftop. Each veranda is decorated with intricate designs, from regal dragons to blossoming flowers. Detailed Description

Spain’s history reads more like a storybook than a history book. On this 14-day luxury tour of Spain for families, you will find momentous streets and the eclectic variety of regional culture. The landscape rises and falls with the mountains. The calm Mediterranean brushes against the shore. The sounds of the city pass well into the night and the mornings fill tranquil neighborhoods. Arrive in Barcelona and the family will immediately be embraced by the exotic ambiance of the international city. Buildings don’t line the streets; they decorate the city.

Tour around the Block of Discord and find the disparate styles of four separate architects adorning the facades. Wander through the maze-like Gothic Quarter and witness the textured façade of Sagrada Familia Church. The children will find images of marvelous storybooks come to life at Gaudi’s Park Guell. Climb aboard the train to Madrid and enjoy a tour of the Royal Palace, home to thousands of rooms and countless luxuries. Stroll along the bustling Puerta del Sol and linger in the Plaza Mayor. Take time to experience the Prado: the amount of Spanish and European Masters on display at the gallery will enchant the entire family. A day trip to Segovia will take you along the base of the Roman aqueduct and through the almost mythical castle.

In Toledo you will discover 500 years of history, from a magnificent cathedral to a stunning medieval synagogue. Travel to the Andalusian countryside to find whitewashed windmills and the circling cobblestone streets of Granada. Visit the Royal Cathedral and see the main gallery’s tremendous artistry, including the tombs of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. Granada’s Old Town rambles with hidden niches all embraced by the shadow of the Alhambra. Explore the far reaches of the palace complex and the city’s quintessence. Ronda’s beauty is as much from the edging gorge as from the simplicity of the serene streets and literary history. Traverse the countryside and visit a fabulous olive grove that includes an olive oil tasting.

Arcos de la Frontera embodies the spirit of Andalusia in its streets, medieval buildings, and unparalleled view of the landscape. Spend the day in Jerez de la Frontera to visit the quaint city and view the ceremonial display of the intricately trained horses. The family will alight at the show and the rich frontier history of the city. Travel to the renowned city of Seville and wander through the narrow alleyways of Barrio Santa Cruz, which edges the celebrated cathedral. The incredible complex displays paradise in its design and maintenance. Your private transfer will escort the family to the airport. The cities and the countryside provide an unimaginable connection to Spain’s history, displayed with the captivating imaginings of storybook.

Portugal, Spain Tour Review: Porto, Cangas de Onis, Sidecar Tour, History, 10 Days

The planning experience was wonderful overall. From the initial conversation about what my family was looking for to the final touches to the itinerary, Zicasso's travel expert was engaging, responsive, and helpful.

The accommodations he selected for us exceeded expectations; they were spacious, beautiful, and well-located. The tours/activities suggested were really fun and gave us a sense of the locale in a unique and memorable way that fit our family well. Once we were in-country, communications were easy and helpful. We felt very well cared for.

Payment to our travel company was easy and it was a real pleasure once we were in-country to have all the identified items already paid for. I would definitely book a trip with them again.

Spain Vacation Review: History, Architecture, Hiking, E-Biking, Barcelona, Caminito del Rey, Marbella, 2 Weeks

Zicasso's travel specialists did a great job for us. They clearly listened to us and curated an experience that was made specifically for us. It checked all of the boxes and more.

Highlights were the local tour guides in each city. It was great to meet and get to know local people, learn so much history, see the architecture (Gaudí in Barcelona and the awesome palaces and cathedrals that we visited), the Montserrat hike, Caminito del Rey (which was absolutely better with a guide), and the Marbella e-bike adventure.

The hotels were wonderful; all unique and all great choices. We came home happy and tired, which is the sign of a good trip for us (since we do not ever sit on beaches or at pools and relax!).

My family and I loved Asturias. We considered it a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip. Zicasso's travel agent planned the perfect outings for us. Our guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Our agent also provided us with very helpful hints and suggestions for restaurants and shops. Both of the hotels he chose were located perfectly and staffed by friendly employees.
