Detailed Description

It is in the south of Spain where you can take the best photos. Street-life continues unchanged, from artists gathering on lantern-lit lanes to old men playing cards on cafe terraces. The architecture is surreal with a mishmash of styles that have come together to create a giant artistic canvas. There are stunning monuments, all of them places that every photographer would like to capture once in their lives, Le Mezquita and the Alhambra just two examples. Rural landscapes change color with the sun, contrasting the portraiture that is possible when you get to know Andalusian traditions like flamenco, bullfighting, luthier, and horsemanship.

It is also in the south of Spain where you can take photos that many would consider quintessentially Spanish. But spend a week with your private photography guide, and you will discover that the south of Spain is uniquely Andalusian. You will find that most dreamy images and ideas of Spain have their origins here in the culturally fierce and distinctive south, where your photo reel slowly comes alive with nuance and subtlety. When you dream of Spain, it is Andalusia that comes to mind, and this photography tour celebrates the classic images found from the hacienda to the alcazar, the street-side scenes to the historical odes.

A private photography guide leads you across the region using expert knowledge to get you in the best spots at the best times of the day. Naturally, you maximize the good light, especially in the hours before dusk but also a few places just after dawn. Private portrait sessions have been set up, so you can capture artists and performers in all their glory. Semi-private access to certain buildings has also been arranged, allowing you to photograph world-famous places without having to poke your camera through the crowds. During the middle part of each day, you will rest, following the siesta rhythm as the sun bleaches the streets. This will prove a great way to save energy because you will need your camera in the night as well, especially when so much local life can be found on the streets.

This private handcrafted tour begins and ends in Seville with one photography guide taking you around Andalusia. As it is a private tour, there will be no prerequisites for photographic ability. All you need is a passion for taking photos, and through the tour, you will improve your skills regardless of the level you start at. There can be as much, or as little, of a focus on classroom type learning as you would like, but the main idea is to take out your camera and experiment. You will have the opportunity to take a full variety of photos ranging from portraiture, to architecture and landscapes as you enjoy unfiltered access to scenes and settings not ordinarily available to budding photographers.

You will fly to Seville and travel directly to Cordoba, where Le Mezquita provides a great photographic introduction. Day two is all about the city, from its Moorish architecture to street-life scenes. After dark you meet with flamenco performers, taking their portraits on and off the stage. Travel to Granada on day three and semi-private access to the Alhambra, followed by some intoxicating street scenes in the Albaycin. Again there’s no prerequisite over camera choice – every photographer is different – although a good DSLR with two lenses is recommended. Something like an 85mm f/1.8 plus a 70 – 200 f/2.8, but of course, this is personal choice. When considering the lenses to pack for this trip, it is important to consider low-light ability as this will come up throughout the tour.

After the Alhambra, it will be a day in the pueblos blancos, Andalusia’s white villages, where old men play cards over brandy glasses and haciendas await on glorious open landscapes. You will be back in Granada for the city changing color, followed by some food photography in the tapas bars. Spend day five on a working hacienda, capturing horse riders and bullfighters going through their practices. Then dive into iconic Spain, day six spent in old-world Seville before day seven takes you to Ronda. There will be a lot of ground to cover in seven days, and you will never really put your camera down. But Andalusian life is energizing, as everywhere you turn there is vitality and vigor to the culture that you will be unable to take your eyes, and your camera, off of.  Don’t take just our word for it - consider reading some of our travelers’ reviews of Spain, and see how you can customize your own dream vacation.

Portugal, Spain Tour Review: Porto, Cangas de Onis, Sidecar...

The planning experience was wonderful overall. From the initial conversation about what my family was looking for to the final touches to the itinerary, Zicasso's travel expert was engaging, responsive, and helpful.

The accommodations he selected for us exceeded expectations; they were spacious, beautiful, and well-located. The tours/activities suggested were really fun and gave us a sense of the locale in a unique and memorable way that fit our family well. Once we were in-country, communications were easy and helpful. We felt very well cared for.

Payment to our travel company was easy and it was a real pleasure once we were in-country to have all the identified items already paid for. I would definitely book a trip with them again.

Spain Vacation Review: History, Architecture, Hiking, E-Biking,...

Zicasso's travel specialists did a great job for us. They clearly listened to us and curated an experience that was made specifically for us. It checked all of the boxes and more.

Highlights were the local tour guides in each city. It was great to meet and get to know local people, learn so much history, see the architecture (Gaudí in Barcelona and the awesome palaces and cathedrals that we visited), the Montserrat hike, Caminito del Rey (which was absolutely better with a guide), and the Marbella e-bike adventure.

The hotels were wonderful; all unique and all great choices. We came home happy and tired, which is the sign of a good trip for us (since we do not ever sit on beaches or at pools and relax!).

My family and I loved Asturias. We considered it a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip. Zicasso's travel agent planned the perfect outings for us. Our guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Our agent also provided us with very helpful hints and suggestions for restaurants and shops. Both of the hotels he chose were located perfectly and staffed by friendly employees.
