Ruaha National Park – The African Savannah

You will be traveling to wilderness areas and exploring places that few people ever get to witness. So yes, this is adventurous, but at heart, African safaris are very relaxed vacations. Rather than spending the night in the city of Dar es Salaam, it is better to fly to your safari immediately. After customs and immigration, a light aircraft will fly you to Ruaha National Park, where the open savannah is a bucolic place to rest and relax. When you are ready, a short game drive will reveal some astonishing scenes because wildlife begins to gather close to the water in the late afternoon.

Detailed Description

Africa is filled with excellent wildlife experiences, but some wildernesses are more impressive and more unique than others. The best are those that are difficult to access by road, and ecosystems that reflect animal worlds that have remained unchanged for millennia. You can visit them and find lions and leopards savoring seasonal feasts. You can also witness the great wildebeest migration, and the vast, open savannah, where elephant herds kick up dust, and astonishing scenes unfold at watering holes. You can descend into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera to find 25,000 wild mammals and nature’s imperfect balance. Then, you can sit back at a luxurious camp and watch the animals continually pass.

Tanzania is home to some of the world’s ultimate wildlife destinations and experiences. The diversity is astonishing, and the animal abundance is beyond what anyone can imagine. The country’s best four destinations are spread across the country, and you can spend many days traveling between them on bumpy, uncomfortable roads. You can also fly. With this fly-in safari, you will be completely immersed in the wilderness, hopping between destinations and small camps that are perfectly suited to senior travelers. It is an excellent route for a first-time East Africa safari and will be packed with wildlife complexity and comfort, thanks to light aircraft, superb camps, and the best private guides.

The focus of your safaris will be on authenticity. You do not need long game drives to see it all. Instead, your private guides will lead short and slow drives, so you can fully explore the diversity and subtlety. This is an adventure, but to spend a week in the African wilderness is also one of the world’s most tranquil travel experiences. By disconnecting from your everyday, you can connect with nature. After landing in Dar es Salaam, you will fly directly to Ruaha for two nights on the vast and arid savannah, where animal encounters are clustered around watering holes and the Ruaha River.

Next, you will fly to the Selous Game Reserve, which will provide you with new perspectives because you will be cruising on the river and will have the opportunity for short game walks. The Serengeti will then cultivate sightings of the biggest herds and most plentiful big cats. Ngorongoro is like a microcosm of the other destinations because it is packed into a volcanic caldera, which will prove to be a fitting finale to your one-week Tanzania safari. You will fly to these four destinations to enjoy a profusion of wild animals, an exceptional diversity of species, and so many of the scenes that you may only think exist in wildlife documentaries. You will have stunning camps that provide comfort, all the necessary amenities, and a continuous immersion in nature. Best of all, you will be encouraged to explore slowly.

Tanzania Travel Review: Serengeti, Great Migration, Safari Experience, Big Five, Ngorongoro Crater, 1-Week Tour

Communication with our Zicasso travel team was fantastic. They were very responsive to all questions and calmed any concerns we had.

We were met at the airport by our travel agent, who was our guide for the week. He was amazing! He ensured we had the best experience possible – we traveled and explored on our schedule, making sure we saw all the animals and sights we wanted to see.

The Serengeti was everything I imagined it would be. The plains were alive with all kinds of animals, and watching the cheetahs, lions, and leopards hunting was magical. We didn’t see them catch anything, but it was still fantastic to see them in action.

We were there during a drought, so the Great Migration hadn't started yet, but it started raining and we saw thousands of animals gathering to start their long trek. It was a beautiful sight.

Our agent did his best to ensure we saw the Big Five – elephant, leopard, buffalo, lion, and rhino, and we managed to see four of them on our first day out in the Serengeti. We had to wait until the last day in the Ngorongoro Crater to see a rhino, but it was worth the wait.

It was the best vacation I have ever had and our travel agent was a big reason why.

Thank you to our travel team!

Tanzania Vacation Review: Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar, Hot-Air Balloon Ride, Private Guide, 10 Nights

Our African safari, organized by Zicasso’s tour company and its agent, was a trip of a lifetime. Their partnering with the local travel company was absolutely brilliant. Our guide was of the highest quality that could have been expected.

The accommodations at the Ngorongoro Crater were amazing. The other accommodations were a bit more rustic, but they seemed perfectly located for our safaris.

We would not recommend the "walk" to the elephant caves without more disclosure about the difficulty of the trek and the footwear required. We were not thrilled with the visit to the Maasai village. We felt taken advantage of. We would have preferred a visit to a village where our participation was more authentic and where we did not get a high-pressure sales pitch.

Booking the hot-air balloon ride with the chosen company was an excellent choice. We have come back with so many memories of our time in Tanzania (including our stay in Zanzibar). We would highly recommend our travel company and agent to anyone considering an African safari.
