Phnom Penh – The Warmth of Cambodia

Phnom Penh conjures images of shimmering spires rising out of the Royal Palace and monks draped in saffron robes walking down the wide boulevards. Markets fill with the aromas of captivating spices and cafes emanate the scent of freshly roasted coffee and succulent cuisines. Your flight lands at Phnom Penh International Airport, where your private transfer meets you upon arrival. The city stands at the confluence of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap Rivers, combining big-city elegance with provincial charm. Trees line the lanes and frame French colonial mansions. Fishing boats move with the river current in search of filling their nets. You settle into the comforts of your luxurious hotel at the heart of the city, offering you the remainder of the day at leisure.

For a perfect introduction to Khmer culture and history, you can visit the National Museum, which was erected between 1917 and 1920 using traditional Khmer architectural elements. The galleries contain a millennium’s worth of masterful design and stunning sculpture wrapped around a verdant tropical courtyard. A herbaceous aroma fills the walkways beneath the rose-tinted rooftops. You first find a large fragment of an immense bronze statue depicting Vishnu. In the southern pavilion, you discover pre-Angkorian collections, offering a timeline of artwork attributed to Indian sculptors as well as the intricate detail of Khmer culture dating between the 5th and 8th centuries.

Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore Tour Review: Khmer Cooking Class, History, Geography, Culture, Rural Areas, Private Guides, Boutique Hotels, 3 Weeks

Zicasso’s travel agency worked patiently with us over several months to organize a perfect four-country tour through Indochina, doing exactly what we asked, including a Khmer cooking class with a local chef.

We were met on arrival in each county by an experienced English-speaking guide who was well-versed in the history, geography, and culture of each location, and they were just delightful people too. They took us to rural villages and through urban mazes to get a close look at the daily life of the citizens. We chatted with farmers in the field and had meals in local homes. Our agency booked amazing hotels for each stop, from an eco-lodge in the mountains of Vietnam to a spectacular seaside resort in Thailand.

We had contact names and numbers for agency representatives in each country. They were incredibly responsive, even after hours, when we had a small medical issue. They gave us a completely seamless experience from arrival to departure, with no wasted time. Vacation time is very precious, so we prefer to work with professionals who know the area intimately and take the time to understand our objectives rather than pushing a canned itinerary.

Indonesia Trip Review: Yogyakarta, Ubud, Temples, Snorkeling, Wildlife, 2-Week Tour

Zicasso's travel agent did a wonderful job of arranging seamless, complex transfers from Java to Gili Air to Ubud, Bali, and provided great guides, drivers, and advice, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot and local currency on arrival. We did have an issue with hotels not reserved until a couple of days ahead and he promptly resolved the problem.

Our agent was a very responsive and prompt communicator. We would recommend!

Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia Vacation Review: Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Boat Rides, Mount Batur, Hiking, Jagasari, Rice Terraces, Dance Performance, 12 Nights

Overall, Zicasso’s travel agent was excellent. The agent was very receptive to our requests, planned our trip very well based on our input, and every arrangement was seamless, without any hiccups.

Singapore is quite humid and can get hot, more than Texas. With walking everywhere, it can be uncomfortable, so perhaps plan to visit in the cooler months, based on local agents’ feedback.

Vietnam was a surprise in all dimensions. It had very good infrastructure. The travel agents took fantastic care of us and the trips to Ninh Bình, which included a bamboo boat tour, and Hạ Long Bay, with a private boat tour, were noteworthy and must-dos.

Bali was a magical and mystical land, with extremely polite and hospitable people and an extraordinary guide who was calm and facilitated our tour so well. The early-morning Mount Batur hike, though moderately strenuous, was worth it, as the sunrise was spectacular, and the trip to the Jagasari area was peaceful and so insightful. I highly recommend staying longer than the four days we stayed and perhaps changing the location to the coast and north side, as traveling within the island from one spot to another takes a long time. The highlight was the kechak dance performance. It gave us goosebumps.

The arrangements were wonderful, with great accommodations and transportation.

Thanks to our travel agent.

Indonesia Vacation Review: Mount Batur Sunset Hike, Gili Islands, Rice Fields, Temples, 10 Nights

Team Zicasso,

Our trip to Bali was simply outstanding… we could not have asked for a more amazing vacation!  Our highest compliments to our travel agent and the team he put together (our tour guide and driver) to make our vacation (a belated 50th birthday celebration) unforgettable. The travel company put together a top-notch itinerary with the most memorable excursions. From the sunset hike of Mount Batur to tours of rice fields and several temples, and three relaxing days in the Gili Islands, we could not have asked for more!

Our agent was a master communicator and planner who was always two steps ahead. Throughout the entire planning process, he was punctual, efficient, honest, and a problem-solver to boot. Just one example: I miscalculated our departure day by one day and did not realize it until close to the end of our trip. Instead of me trying to frantically rearrange flights etc., our agent, within 30 minutes of hearing my problem, had three viable options for me ready to go, without any interruptions to our schedule. Another very professional touch that showed his willingness to go above and beyond was his personally greeting us at each new hotel we stayed at to ensure the accommodations met our expectations.

I will definitely team up again with Team Zicasso and this company for future travel plans.

Sincerely,

Jeff H.

Bali / Indonesia Travel Review: Ubud, Sanur, Candikuning, Safari, Rice Fields, Coffee Plantation, Local Cuisine, Culture, 7-Night Trip

The hotel in Sanur was absolutely special! We highly recommend it. The resort in Ubud was also wonderful. The staff were great. We had no idea this town was such a vibrant place and would have loved more time to explore it, possibly from a walkable hotel.

Our guide and driver were wonderful and flexible when we needed to stop for a Diet Coke and iced cappuccino. We also felt that Zicasso's travel company was flexible with our changes as we went.

We did the Bali safari on our transfer day and it was a stop we really enjoyed.

Nice job, all involved!
