La Morra - Brace Yourself for the Feast
Arrive at the Milan airport, meet the driver and prepare to be transported to a world where taking the time to enjoy yourself isn’t an indulgence: it’s a way of life. Enjoy the ride from Milan to La Morra as you pass the green mountains and high hills into the Piedmont region. Take time to notice the hillsides covered in grapevines from top to bottom, with the remnants of a medieval town looming over it all. Check into your intimate home away from home nestled in the Nebbiolo vineyards. Enjoy the heartwarming and welcoming aperitif that will not only kick-start your appetite, but also the insatiable need to know, taste, and touch all that Italy has to offer.
Your private guide will ensure that your tastes in Piedmont, whether with food, wine, history, or culture, are satisfied. That satisfaction begins with meeting Elio Altare, acknowledged globally as one of the world’s greatest wine makers. He is also a leader of the revolution in cellar and vineyard technique in the Barolo area. He is a sweet and humble person that might remind you of your favorite uncle. You will be guided through his small family cellar where you will have an exclusive tasting session, full of wines that can range from full bodied and smelling of roses to tannic and tasting of blackberries. Enjoy typical Piedmontese fare: the pungent delicacy of Grana Padano cheese and gnocchi alla bava, velvety and supple potato dumplings garnished with melted cheese and butter.

Detailed Description
A wine-tasting journey from Piedmont to Tuscany is a feast for the senses. Beginning in the mountains of Piedmont, known for wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco, these bold and luscious varietals will compliment the rich, hearty foods, and earthy aromas of the area. Indulge in the array of the wines on offer by Elio Altare, awarded “Vine Grower of the Year 2005,” by the Gambero Rosso guide. The tannic power of the Barolo is the perfect flavor to encourage you to sink into the Italian lifestyle, ready to absorb all that you will experience.
The quaint villages of La Morra, Alba, and Barbaresco will have you dreaming of their medieval roots, with horses trailing the countryside. You can still smell the wetness of the trees in the morning fog as it rolls through the mountainside. The deliciousness of Piedmont is not limited to just wine as it is best known for the white truffle. You will get to know this decadent ingredient firsthand, not only by indulging in the earthy delight, but also by participating in a real truffle hunt, making the fruit of your labor that much more delectable. The smell of fresh agnolotti, a typical Piedmontese pasta similar to ravioli, the crunch of breadsticks, and the sweetness of brioche will never be far from your fingertips.
The drive to Tuscany is among the most breathtaking in the world, with postcard-like views of the cypress trees that have come to represent the Tuscan countryside; you can almost smell the smoky, spice of the trees from the car. The Super Tuscans in Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Brunello, and even the coastal wines, will give you an assortment of herbaceous and zesty aromas and tastes, as well as rolling green hills of the countryside and the calm stillness of the Tuscan coast. The villages that dot Tuscany are stonewalled and numerous, making every second feel like a fairytale with castles, towers, and the almost unreal beauty of villages like Greve in Chianti. As the colorful buildings poke out of the trees, it seems that almost every road leads to yet another vineyard with incredible wine, friendly people, and a table full of food that must be shared. From medieval architecture to modern wine, Piedmont and Tuscany will submerge your senses, and you will joyfully surrender to all that these incredible areas of Italy have to offer. By the final day you may be full from all the delicious food, but you can never have enough of Italy.

We loved everything about our trip to Tuscany. We had great, comfortable hotels as bases to explore the beautiful countryside and towns. Our hotels had kind, welcoming staff. Zicasso's travel company provided helpful suggestions and reserved non-touristy restaurants and enjoyable, interesting activities: eating in Florence, wine tasting in Montalcino, and cheese making in Pienza.

We had a fantastic experience for a first-time trip to Italy. I wasn't sure how this would be, considering I learned about Zicasso while trying to plan the trip myself. Zicasso put me in touch with a travel specialist and the whole team was incredibly responsive to my many, many questions. If they were ever annoyed, it didn’t show.
I really wanted a smooth experience for my family of five, including three teens, one of whom has Celiac. Our agent was great in helping plan out the experience we wanted. As you may know, it is challenging to find rooms for five in Europe, but the travel company found apartments (usually two bedrooms with a pull-out couch) in the heart of town. You can really customize what you do, but we elected to plan our own meals and handle some of our own transport. We did have one issue where the van driver taking us to the train failed to show. I got one with Uber and the travel company quickly (I mean before we got home quickly!) refunded that amount.
Our contact in Italy was amazing and patient. I can’t give her enough credit. Any time I was unsure of something, she was there. The tours were great, especially Florence and Rome. You may be able to find the companies online, but ours seems to have the connections to get the best guides.
As for meals, we didn’t have any issues. We used an app and got a few recommendations from the travel company and local guides. Even our wine-tasting tour out in Tuscany was accommodating.
I would use our travel company and Zicasso again. I think the only downside is we tried to cram a lot in and it was hot. I probably should have asked for one to two fewer or shorter walking tours, especially on days we switched cities. Otherwise, it was excellent.

From the moment we began working with Zicasso's trip planner, our every need was met. He listened and planned an epic trip based on our conversations. Then, for our trip, we worked with another trip planner who was extremely responsive and professional, especially when we were in Italy. Any questions we had were promptly answered. Everything they planned was pure luxury and fantastic. The private pick-ups, drivers, and tour guides were absolutely prompt and fantastic. Every tour was super-fun and informative. Highlights included the wonderful hotels, food tour in Florence, tour in Venice, cooking class, and tasting track in Tuscany. I would highly highly recommend. It was a five-star, wonderful trip!

The drivers were timely, professional, and very prompt. The guides were very knowledgeable and generally designed the tours to match our requests. The hotels were exceptional and our only comment is that there was an odd odor in our room in one of the hotels.
Our only true complaint would be about the wine tasting on May 22. The location was not aware of our reservation. The couple running the vineyard seemed confused by our arrival. After a bit, they offered to accommodate us, but we felt like we were imposing on them. Then, at our lunch at a restaurant on Capri, they did not have a record of a reservation and placed us at a table without a view, near the entrance. We made the best of the meal, but for the price we paid, we would have expected confirmed reservations and a table with a view.

I am so happy we worked with our Zicasso travel agent for our 11-night visit to Venice, Florence, and Rome. We had a wonderful Italian experience. Our agent was everything you hope for in a travel specialist: knowledgeable, thoughtful, helpful, gracious, and kind.
Upon hearing our initial ideas for the trip, she quickly put together a plan on how best to allot our time. Thereafter ensued exchanges regarding hotels, sightseeing, guides, and transfers. She listened to our thoughts, desires, and questions, making many useful suggestions, including hotel choices. She always prioritized our wants and concerns. She organized the travels quickly, as we contacted her only two months prior to departure.
Once we agreed to the program, she sent us a brochure PDF laying out details for each day of the trip that included hotel confirmations, transfer details, vouchers for museums, a cooking class, a Tuscany day trip with wine, cheese, and olive oil tasting, a gondola ride, Venice lagoon boat excursion, basilica entrance tickets, and guided tours of each city, the Vatican, and Colosseum.
Upon arrival in Venice, our agent met us at the airport and escorted us to our water taxi. She kept in touch with us daily, texting a reminder of the next day’s schedule, along with numbers for guides and drivers if applicable. Everything she planned went smoothly, without a single hitch.
When you begin the process with Zicasso, it feels akin to a shot in the dark. The site provides the names of two companies and you’re left to decide who to work with. I couldn’t be more pleased with the trip our agent designed. Book with her; you will be in the best of hands.
