What to expect on this itinerary
The serene blue and white of the Franz Joseph glacier stretches between two mountains. The cry of the haka echoes through the sky. Auckland - Decidedly Different
Meet your guide and depart from the beautiful city of Auckland. Begin your adventure through the islands of New Zealand by first making your way through the incredibly lush dairy farmland of the Waikato region. The hills roll in the greenery that seems never ending. Stop at one of the many farms in the area for a fresh cup of coffee and a taste of the local flavor, from New Zealand’s famed hospitality to a delicious, rich cup of coffee topped off with a splash of the local milk. The fresh grass is sweet in the air as you make your way to the Waitomo Caves. Your voice echoes in the emptiness of the damp cavern. The sound of rushing water swirls around you. Float deeper into the darkness where bits of light scatter and hang like glowing icicles from the cave’s ceiling, until the cave’s glow fades, the water pushes you to the nearest opening and you exit the cavern with a taste of wonder and a small hint of the beauty of the North Island.
Settle into the “Cultural Capital,” of New Zealand: Rotorua. Once known for being a luxurious resort town, the city still bustles with spas and hot springs but has also grown to encompass a large connection to its Maori roots. Experience the Maori culture first hand. The warriors stand tall and proud in grass skirts, their eyes and tongues bulging out of their heads. Their arms flex as they jump and shout into the air. Once the tribe has calmed down, no longer sensing you as a threat, they greet you with a warm welcome and the promise of a hangi, a traditional Maori style BBQ, with succulent meats and hardy vegetables slow roasted in a deep hole dug for the occasion. The sounds of guitars and chants, rhythmically structured and continuous, move around the air mixing with the luscious smell of roasting food. As the sounds and flavors of the night fade into the ether it will always be a reminder of how unique the North Island is.

Detailed Description
On this 14-day tour, travel through the North and South Islands of New Zealand to see the different worlds that the islands have created. Whether in the warm summer months that blanket the prairies in lush green, or in the cool winter months that brush the mountain peaks with pristine snow, there is never a bad time to explore New Zealand. Even with their close proximity and shared country, the North and South Islands of New Zealand are incredibly different, from the varied tribes of the Maori to the awe-inspiring landscapes that shift the region. There is no question as to New Zealand’s beauty, but on this tour, you can experience the islands’ differences.
Beginning in Auckland you will make your way south to Rotorua where Maori culture thrives and spa resorts are part of the city’s history. Indulge in the culture and the museums that inhabit the area, along with the wildlife reserves that calls Rotorua home. In Napier you will be surrounded by a present day seaside fantasy of a one-time Art Deco vision. The Wairarapa region is surrounded by wildlife and vineyards to be explored and experienced. Make your way to Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, where the waterfront shines bright in the sun and Mt Victoria watches over the bay. Enjoy the stunning beauty of Cook Strait as you make your way across the waterway in the luxuries of the Cook Strait ferry as you reach for the South Island.
Once on the shores of the South Island you will tour the premier wine and food region and taste the difference between the islands eventually leaving behind the golden hills of Marlborough for the stunning scenery of the Kaikoura Coast. Known for its sea life, in season you can watch the whales migrate. As you head farther south you will pass along the Southern Alps and the small village of Mt Somers before reaching Queenstown. Full of magnificent adventures, Queenstown will always keep you active, in addition to being a wonderful spot to stop on your journey to Milford Sound. Stay in Cardrona Valley and enjoy its history, stretching back to the gold mining era. Full of diversity, travel from a historically gold mining town to the stunning Franz Josef Glacier. Short walks take you to vantage points to view the glacier’s movement over time. The surrounding areas are also known for Pounamu (greenstone) carvings and glass blowing. At your journey’s end you can sit back and enjoy the magnificent view of the alpine scenery on the TranzAlpine railway. Whether from the snowy winter or the sunny summer, the differences of the North and South Island are apparent. The itinerary was awesome! We had a few snafus with hotel reservations, but they were quickly resolved. The tours were perfect and all private, with excellent guides. The pace made good use of the time we had and maximized seeing the most locations in our time frame. The hotels were beautiful (especially the one in Queenstown, WOW!) and the rooms were perfect for our needs (kitchens and laundry). It was so great having everything pre-booked and guided, as it allowed us to relax and enjoy the trip and not worry about logistics. It was a trip of a lifetime.
I would highly recommend this Zicasso travel agency! When traveling so far away, it made such a difference to have everything coordinated by a professional. I have had many people ask how we managed to do so much with the time we had. Now, I don't think I can travel any other way.

Zicasso’s trip planner did an excellent job. Communication and the quality of the experiences were everything we'd expected and more, especially in New Zealand. The accommodations were first rate; the highlight was the lodge in Queenstown. The guides and drivers were professional and knowledgeable, especially those in Queenstown and Auckland. We loved the dedicated website for reference, as well as the detailed booklet and maps for both countries.
For future itineraries, I would add another day in Queenstown and a full day in Christchurch. If days were limited, I would recommend one less day in Auckland and/or skipping the drive/train from Franz Josef.
The only complication was the day we spent 10 hours going to and coming from Milford Sound. I recommend doing Milford Sound by plane/helicopter from Queenstown, which would also permit seeing the glaciers/southern alps from the air. The only things we missed were the zoo in Auckland and the Blue Mountain day tour in Sydney. Next trip!

The travel consultant at Zicasso's travel agency planned a memorable adventure. Our primary focus was the amazing golf courses in New Zealand. We were able not only to enjoy all the courses on our bucket list, but also the history, culture, and adventure New Zealand offers.

The travel company was excellent as was the agent, until we committed and paid. We were unhappy from then on and not what we have previously experienced from Zicasso agents. Very unresponsive, took weeks for some answers, lack for attention to detail eg forgot to book private transfer in Christchurch despite having months to do it. Still awaiting small refund for 2 months, money is not important service is.

We just got back from a most enjoyable trip to New Zealand, planned by Zicasso's travel agent and her company. She understood what we were trying to cover during this trip and planned the excursions/activities, hotels, and transportation very well.
We started in Queensland and, after Milford Sound, worked our way north through Mount Cook, Christchurch, Rotorua, and Auckland. The company planned each day, with the travel times and activities woven well with appropriate meal times and rest breaks. The guides and pick-ups at each location were prompt and well-informed, and we always knew what to expect at each step of our trip.
We had a couple of issues, one with a day trip for wine tasting and another with the quality of one of the hotels, but our agent responded quickly with a solution.
It was a memorable trip; a fun, enjoyable, and educational introduction to New Zealand, and we would heartily recommend them to anyone planning a trip to New Zealand.

Zicasso’s tour planner created an amazing trip for us. He was quick to respond with initial planning and tailored the trip to our personal interests, thus creating a true customized experience. His expertise, advice, and recommendations were invaluable.
Our itinerary allowed us to see and do so much during our trip, including museums, galleries, Māori cultural experiences, a lake-side day spa, geothermal park, Hobbiton, Mount Cook, a harbor tour, Milford Sound, a scenic railway trip through the Southern Alps, hiking, and dining, etc.
We enjoyed each of the selected accommodations.
The New Zealand touring app was an amazing resource and contained perfect details for each excursion and accommodation check-ins. Questions that arose during the trip were always answered in a timely manner over the app. Essentially, the stress of planning a two-week, multicity road trip was eliminated and all the hours I would have spent planning this itinerary myself were avoided. I would highly recommend the company.
