Detailed Description
Vast mountain ranges will shimmer white with snow on New Zealand’s South Island. There is great wilderness here, and over a third of the island is protected as a national park Continuing the journey, you will stay amid vineyards or cruise through sun-kissed sounds. The island has its wild side, but the great highlight here, especially for senior travelers, is the sheer diversity of the landscape. Here, you can enjoy a myriad of new landscapes and experiences without needing to leave your comfort zone. Everything is made easy and accessible by excellent transport connections and a well-developed tourist infrastructure. So, you can enjoy a little of the wild before relaxing on the coast and sampling the delicious Sauvignon Blanc.
Having two full weeks here will ensure that the trip runs at an easy-going pace, keeping the time on the move at a minimum. You will have two nights in most destinations, and each journey will be part of the experience. This private tour is not quite a full loop of the island. You will start in Queenstown and travel north through the mountains to the West Coast. Then, you will ride along the coast all the way around to Christchurch in the East. This will ensure that you can experience the most famous national parks and scenic areas, and at the same time, make connections with local culture that is both Maori and European in heritage. Some of the stops will be deep in nature, while towns like Queenstown and Nelson are perennial favorites of senior travelers from all over the world.
Your two days in Queenstown will be left free. It is the island’s best tourist gateway, which is a sublime town that is tucked between the mountains and the lake. For days three and four you will be in Fiordland, where you will travel on an overnight cruise along the iconic and irrepressible Milford Sound. The road journey to Franz Josef on day five is New Zealand’s most scenic drive, and you will pass countless lakes as you traverse both Mt. Aspiring and Westland national park. You will partake in a unique alpine experience on day six that will be complete with a scenic flight along with an optional glacial hike. You will have now spent four days in Te Wahipounamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been shaped by millennia of glaciation.
Now you will hug the coast. Hokitika is the main Maori cultural base on the island, but Punakaiki will provide an afternoon and evening on the strangest of beaches. Seductive old Nelson has become a hotspot for senior travelers and retiring locals. You will spend two nights here, which allows for a day cruise in nearby Abel Tasman National Park. The Marlborough Sounds will be visited en route to two nights in Blenheim, which is the heart of New Zealand’s wine industry. Next, you will spend the day on the Eastern coast as you go whale and dolphin watching in Kaikoura before a day in a Christchurch. Zicasso’s trip planner did an excellent job. Communication and the quality of the experiences were everything we'd expected and more, especially in New Zealand. The accommodations were first rate; the highlight was the lodge in Queenstown. The guides and drivers were professional and knowledgeable, especially those in Queenstown and Auckland. We loved the dedicated website for reference, as well as the detailed booklet and maps for both countries.
For future itineraries, I would add another day in Queenstown and a full day in Christchurch. If days were limited, I would recommend one less day in Auckland and/or skipping the drive/train from Franz Josef.
The only complication was the day we spent 10 hours going to and coming from Milford Sound. I recommend doing Milford Sound by plane/helicopter from Queenstown, which would also permit seeing the glaciers/southern alps from the air. The only things we missed were the zoo in Auckland and the Blue Mountain day tour in Sydney. Next trip!

The itinerary was awesome! We had a few snafus with hotel reservations, but they were quickly resolved. The tours were perfect and all private, with excellent guides. The pace made good use of the time we had and maximized seeing the most locations in our time frame. The hotels were beautiful (especially the one in Queenstown, WOW!) and the rooms were perfect for our needs (kitchens and laundry). It was so great having everything pre-booked and guided, as it allowed us to relax and enjoy the trip and not worry about logistics. It was a trip of a lifetime.
I would highly recommend this Zicasso travel agency! When traveling so far away, it made such a difference to have everything coordinated by a professional. I have had many people ask how we managed to do so much with the time we had. Now, I don't think I can travel any other way.

The travel consultant at Zicasso's travel agency planned a memorable adventure. Our primary focus was the amazing golf courses in New Zealand. We were able not only to enjoy all the courses on our bucket list, but also the history, culture, and adventure New Zealand offers.

The travel company was excellent as was the agent, until we committed and paid. We were unhappy from then on and not what we have previously experienced from Zicasso agents. Very unresponsive, took weeks for some answers, lack for attention to detail eg forgot to book private transfer in Christchurch despite having months to do it. Still awaiting small refund for 2 months, money is not important service is.

Zicasso's travel consultant was wonderful to work with. She listened very closely to our trip desires and met every one of them. She was very responsive before and during the vacation. She was accommodating with changes and worked with us on every step to make it a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I would highly recommend her and this tour company for future trip arrangements.
Australia and New Zealand were great. I would definitely spend more time in the rural areas vs the cities. However, Queenstown was awesome and we tend to enjoy the outdoors more than city life.
Thank you for a terrific trip!

We just got back from a most enjoyable trip to New Zealand, planned by Zicasso's travel agent and her company. She understood what we were trying to cover during this trip and planned the excursions/activities, hotels, and transportation very well.
We started in Queensland and, after Milford Sound, worked our way north through Mount Cook, Christchurch, Rotorua, and Auckland. The company planned each day, with the travel times and activities woven well with appropriate meal times and rest breaks. The guides and pick-ups at each location were prompt and well-informed, and we always knew what to expect at each step of our trip.
We had a couple of issues, one with a day trip for wine tasting and another with the quality of one of the hotels, but our agent responded quickly with a solution.
It was a memorable trip; a fun, enjoyable, and educational introduction to New Zealand, and we would heartily recommend them to anyone planning a trip to New Zealand.
