Cusco - Arrive in the Capital of the Incans to Prepare for the Stunning Trek
The city of Cusco creates a marvelous ambiance at an elevation of over 11,000 feet above sea level. Spanish Colonial churches stand atop strong foundations set by the Inca and the boulder walls of Sacsayhuaman remain strong on the hill overlooking the city. The black and gray colors of the ruin’s stones shimmer in the passing sunlight surrounding by the rolling peaks of the Andes Mountains. The Inca crafted the boulders like puzzle pieces, fitting each stone together without the need for mortar, and the snug positioning keeps objects as thin as a blade of grass from entering between the stones.
Your flight lands at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, where your private transfer greets you upon arrival. Cusco offers a captivating atmosphere shaped by the cobblestone streets, tiled rooftops, and urban sprawl winding along the bordering slopes. The Central Market is filled with the aromas of fresh popcorn and simmering chicken soup. Produce, such as purple corn and a variety of potatoes line the aisles against large bags of quinoa and beans.
The church of La Compania de Jesus was erected in the 16th century and rebuilt after an earthquake in the mid-1600’s. The church boasts a grand facade competing with the beauty of the crowning cathedral in the Plaza de Armas. The baroque design of the exterior gives way to the magnificent gold altarpiece of the interior, which hosts a series of shimmering polychrome statues. The structure was erected on the foundations of the Huayna Capac Palace, home to the last ruler of the Inca Empire.

We had an absolutely amazing trip. The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are by far some of the most memorable experiences we've ever had. Our guide and driver were incredibly kind and accommodating, and our guide especially was very knowledgeable, with so much respect for the surrounding nature and culture.
When we initially discussed our plans with Zicasso’s travel agent, all we knew we wanted to do was the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and we allowed her to provide recommendations for how to fill some additional time in Cusco while we acclimated. She did not steer us wrong! Touring Cusco itself, seeing Sacsayhuaman, several spots in the Sacred Valley, and the Maras Salt Mines were all unforgettable experiences. We also loved the hotel she had us at in Cusco. It was a great spot to be able to explore the city on our own time.
After seeing all of the coordination, especially for the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, we're so relieved we chose to go through Zicasso for this trip and were connected with our travel agency. Not a single thing went wrong. Our guide was on top of every detail and it was great knowing our agent was just a text or phone call away.

We had a great trip to Peru! Zicasso’s tour operator was super-helpful in working through the final itinerary and activities with us and answered a lot of questions we had on everything, from what cities to visit, hotels, and even trains. Our travel agent was great in handling the finalization of the itinerary and keeping us informed as our trip came closer. The final itinerary, provided a few weeks before our trip, detailed the times for meeting our guides and our pick-ups and drop-offs, which was very helpful.
Our guides were amazing! We had a great time with them in Lima, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Cusco. The drivers and vehicles provided through our travel company were great, with safe drivers in clean and comfortable vehicles.
Our trip was planned perfectly to help us adjust to the climate. Starting in Lima and ending in Cusco worked great for us and allowed us to get used to the higher elevations. In the end, our itinerary was nine days/eight nights and we didn't feel rushed at all during our trip.

Wow, where do we start? We took a chance to explore our love on an amazing Peruvian honeymoon adventure through the mysterious and wondrous pathways of the Inca trails, mountain tops of magical Machu Picchu, hotels, rooftops, and markets of Cusco and Lima. Little did we know that not only would it cause us to fall in love and create a deeper connection with the divine, but we would also find our hearts connected to a land, culture, and people that welcomed us with open arms as one of their own. Mother Pachamama, you are truly the salt of Peru.
We searched near and far for an agency that could fulfill our traveling needs and desires, and there in the balance they stood. Zicasso's travel partner is definitely a cut above the rest in the competitive industry of traveling and tourism. From the moment we made contact, we knew without a shadow of a doubt that they were something special. From our first correspondence, we were drawn in by a force, and behold, with what appeared to be no effort, our needs were met. Our travel agents seamlessly tailored for us an adventurous itinerary that left us speechless and in awe.
Breathtaking views of historical and archaeological civilizations passed, yet all but forgotten. We relished the cultural ambiance of the locals. The expertise of our tour guide, chauffeur, our lovely and articulate chef, and the many hotels that accommodated our rest, refreshments, revival, and retreat were truly amazing. From the smiles on their faces to the looks in their eyes, we knew that what they had given us were acts of selflessness, not just tourist favor. What we received was genuinely and wholeheartedly fueled by the passion inside of them for the land they love, the people they supported, the traditions that shaped their hearts, and the spirituality they held sacred, both near and dear to their souls.

Overall, fabulous. It was a trip of a lifetime. Zicasso's tour agency planned the perfect combination of the Galápagos and Machu Picchu, with time in Ecuador and Peru as well. They made great suggestions on the number of days and boat for the Galápagos, as well as which hike to plan. The guides the travel specialist set us up with were top-notch.
