Detailed Description

Australia and New Zealand are both enormous countries. There is so much to do and see here, even if most itineraries stick to the same places and activities. Venturing off the beaten track is straightforward here and is an opportunity to discover an authenticity that most other visitors miss. During this adventurous 15-day vacation, you will explore a mix of well-known and lesser-known destinations, enjoying unique activities that will showcase the essence of these breathtaking nations. You will be able to partake in Aboriginal stories by the fire, tasting with winemakers, admiring wild kangaroos, and being immersed in the Maori way of life.

Everything over the 15 days is tailored to senior travelers. The pace is casual and laid-back with a new experience each day, but there are also no long days overly packed with activities. You can also set the pace of your discoveries, so that you are able to explore at a pace that is right with you. Handpicked hotels and lodges will ensure that you are comfortable while allowing you to bask in the charms of your destinations. A premium is placed on providing you with some of the countries’ best local guides. All your destinations can only be truly understood when you are in the hands of locals or people who can narrate the present and help you to experience the past.

You will begin your journey in Melbourne, where you will be immersed in city art and the charms of an incredibly cultural city. With three nights, you can rest after the flight and even venture out to Victoria’s wildernesses. Here, kangaroos will hop by you, koalas hang in trees, and you can experience Australia’s wildlife while staying in the city. Afterward, you will fly to Uluru for two nights of the desert and Aboriginal connections, which will be complete with burning red colors the dazzling Southern stars after dark. Darwin and Kakadu National Park will complete your Australian leg and are two destinations that are well known but have really preserved their off-the-beaten-track feel.

After flying to New Zealand, you will have two nights in Auckland with locals that will show you charming neighborhoods and Pacific waters. After a day of sailing, you will have two days on the Coromandel Peninsula, where off-the-beaten-track beaches will provide you with some downtime, and here, you can have intimate Maori connections. Napier and the nearby Hawkes Bay vineyards will prove to be a bucolic place to culminate your vacation, and your tour will include tasting with vineyard owners and savoring the landscapes. Like elsewhere in the country, you will find that you do not need to travel into the wild in order to venture off the beaten track and to enjoy incredibly authentic experiences.

Australia, New Zealand Trip Review: Tasmania, Rotorua, Uluru, Queenstown, Luging, Camel Ride, Wildlife, Hobbiton, Islands, Glowworm Cave, 2 Weeks

We absolutely loved so much of our trip! My kids’ (ages 11 and eight) favorite activities were luging in Rotorua, NZ, and the sunset camel ride in Uluru, AU, while my husband and I were enchanted by Hobbiton and enjoyed exploring a glowworm cave with the owner's father! We all loved Tasmania.

There were a few hiccups. However, we were very happy with all the support the Zicasso travel company's team provided in real time to help us get back on track.

The overall trip was fantastic. My husband and I appreciated having the team support our adventures, both the highs and the lows. The team members were detailed-oriented. This trip exceeded our expectations and we’re incredibly grateful for their expertise in curating such memorable experiences.

Australia, New Zealand Travel Review: Uluru, Great Barrier Reef, Phillip Island, Sydney Opera House, Queenstown, Christchurch, Auckland, Helicopter Ride, Culture

In planning our trip to Australia and New Zealand, the representative for this travel company listened to our desires and incorporated them into an itinerary that met our needs. All of the tours, guides, transfers, and drivers were very good. Most of the tours were small group, which we prefer, although a couple of tours were as large as 24. The guides on all of our walking tours were incredibly informative. We learned so much.

We have traveled with our companion on nine trips through Zicasso. This is the first time we have felt that the partner travel company did not take all of our circumstances into account. We clearly stated we were older travelers. However, changes to our accommodations after the initial proposal had us walking 20 minutes to town in one place and uphill on the return. Staying in apartment-style lodgings, we were a mile from the nearest store to get breakfast supplies. Another of our hotels had an incredible number of stairs. When we expressed our disappointment in one of these to our agent by email, we got no response. Our planner was on holiday and no one else seemed to be checking her emails.

The recommendations for suggested activities on our free days were also generic and frequently were for activities that required a car to reach. It seems this company plans a lot of self-driving trips and the fact we were not driving was not reflected in our suggestions.

New Zealand, Australia Trip Review: Sydney, Great Barrier Reef, Dart River, Phillip Island, Dinner Cruise, Rainforest, Wildlife, Snorkeling, Helicopter Ride, Boat Tour, 23 Nights

Thanks to the amazing, perfectly planned Australia and New Zealand vacation itinerary provided by Zicasso's travel agency, and specifically the travel agent and her wonderful colleagues, this was the perfect vacation. We were well taken care of and flights were planned within the countries, with someone always greeting us at the next stop to move us through to our next adventure.

We were always busy and saw the most wonderful things... a sunset dinner cruise on Sydney harbor, the march of the penguins at Phillip Island (she arranged for us to have a front-row seat!), snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and touring the rainforest with an Aboriginal guide was very interesting! She arranged for many tours and activities, like a jet boat ride up the Dart River, a helicopter ride onto a glacier, and a TranzAlpine train ride in New Zealand. We also had a first-time-ever encounter with a pod of orca while on a boat tour in New Zealand. The whole trip was an unforgettable experience!

We wished we had taken the travel agent's advice and stayed longer. There was so much to see. We packed a lot into our four short weeks thanks to them. We highly recommend using them to plan your Australia and New Zealand itinerary.

Australia, New Zealand Tour Review: Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Milford Sound, Queensland to Franz Josef Drive, 3 Weeks

I am very pleased to have worked with Zicasso’s travel agent and her company. I wanted to travel to Australia and New Zealand, and our agent’s suggestions on what and where to go and see were great. Where does one begin in planning for the trip and all the logistics to make it happen? I depended on your group and found the results exceeded my expectations. The trip flowed well and the experiences were great. Thank you for making the trip about seeing and experiencing rather than worrying about the logistics!

There were many positive experiences, but the little details, like choosing the right rental car for the NZ roads and having a great limo service, made the difference. What was the highlight?  I wish I could distill it to one or two. I would rate Milford Sound and the Great Barrier Reef highly, but it was the overall experience that stood out. My personal thanks and those of my travel mates.
